What do you think Fallon Sherrock’s chances of winning this year’s Women’s
Series are? Continue reading to find out everything you need to know ahead of
time.
If
you keep up to date with the latest news updates and developments within the
wider world of women’s darts, you are probably aware of some of the sport’s
most famous faces including that of Fallon Sherrock. It is the upcoming Women’s
Series, which runs from January to October this year, however, that has gotten
fellow players and fans alike wondering whether or not the professional darts
player has what it takes to thrash her opponents and rise to the top of the
ranks.
A force to be reckoned with
In
2015, Sherrock reached the final of the BDO Ladies World Championship after
beating Anastasia Dobromyslova 2-1 in the semi-finals. It was playing against
fellow women’s darts pioneer Lisa Ashton that sealed her fate but it still
marked an astonishingly impressive first appearance at what was, at the time,
her first World Championship final. In 2019, she hit the headlines yet again
when she made history by becoming the first female darts player to not only win
a match but win two consecutive matches at the PDC World Championships beating
Ted Evetts 3-2 in the first round and Mensur Suljović 3-1 in the second round.
It was the third round, however, that sealed her fate by losing 2-4 to Chris
Dobey but the record-breaking performance earned her the nickname of Queen of
the Palace after the venue within which the event was held, Alexandra Palace.
A worthy contender
In
the years following Sherrock’s professional debut, she has proven herself as a
worthy contender within the wider world of women’s darts and, perhaps most
importantly, for the winner of the Women’s Series. It is the global
sports betting industry, however, where her name
has repeatedly arisen time and time again with both experienced and
inexperienced professional darts fans believing that she does, in fact, have
what it takes to walk away triumphant. It will mark the first time she has
participated in the tournament since her record-breaking achievements of the
2019 season having already sealed her spot at the coveted event. It will also
see her more than likely play against her unofficial rival, Lisa Ashton, for
her third return to the stage in what is bound to be an action-packed round for
everyone involved at
Alexandra Palace.
A somewhat shaky start
It
may not necessarily mean that
Sherrock has fumbled her chances at
winning the Women’s Series quite yet but her latest performances have hinted at
a somewhat shaky start. It was during the final stage of the PDC Qualifying
School that she suffered a second consecutive early defeat having lost 6-5 to
Joshua Richardson in her home town of Milton Keynes. It came just a day after
she suffered a 6-1 loss to Danny Lauby with a two-day performance that has left
her fate well and truly hanging in the balance and may force her to dig deep to
become the second woman, after
Lisa Ashton, to win a PDC Tour Card for
a place on the Pro Tour which will see 128 of the greatest darts players take
to the stage.
It
may only be January but with the upcoming Women’s Series leaving professional
darts fans waiting with bated breath, all eyes are on Fallon Sherrock and
whether or not she has what it takes to walk away as a worthy winner this year.
It may be too early to say but by taking a look at her past successes, her
performance against worthy contenders, and her somewhat shaky start, only time
will tell how the professional darts player will fare.
