Gerwyn Price has reached the UK Open quarter-finals, and is the favourite to win.

The former finalist was superb against Jamie Hughes, avoiding a potential shock with two 167 finishes and a 10-7 success. He followed that up with a supreme 10-3 thrashing of Krzysztof Ratajski. A 104.57 average was enough to comfortably see off the Polish Eagle, who had knocked him out of the 2018 Players Championship Finals. Speaking to , Price revealed that he was pleased to have been handed a tricky couple of ties. "Even before the tournament started, I was full of confidence," he said. "Sometimes when you get an easier draw, when you get a big player you falter. "I'm a decent player myself, I don't care who I play. I played two decent players. "I got on top of Krzysztof, five nil up - I'm happy with the win."

Frustration inspiration

There was a flashpoint in the opening stages of the match, with Price riled by an unknown distraction. It didn't hold him back, and the Premier League star suggested that it even helped him out.
"It spurred me on a little bit, earlier on. I didn't know if Krzysztof was doing anything, but something was certainly going on.
"I'm not blaming him in any way, but something was happening. I was getting frustrated.
"Sometimes when the crowd's getting on my back and I get frustrated, I do better! I seemed to shrug it off and cope with it well."

Purple patch

Price is arguably the world's most in-form player at this time. The Iceman may have sent cold chills down the spines of his rivals when he mentioned that his best hasn't even been reached yet.
"I'm in a good run of form, I'm as confident as I've ever been, and I'm probably playing the best darts I've ever played," said the Welsh ace.
"I've had a purple patch, but the scary thing is there's a lot more in the tank."
Next up for the 33-year-old is a quarter-final against Simon Stevenson, who has already claimed the scalps of Raymond van Barneveld and Dave Chisnall.
